Lombok
The largely Islamic island of Lombok is situated some 35 miles to the east of Bali, on a pennisula which stretches towards northern Australia. It offers a remote haven offering a perfect place to relax, rewind and take in the magnificent surroundings.
The scenery on the island includes an array of delights such as the Sindenggile waterfall and the volcanic Rinjani Mountain with its lake filled crater. The island is very lush and relies on its production of rice, Tobacco, coconuts, coffee, kapok and cotton to fund the locals.
Lombok is easily reached by ferry or plane from Bali, and has stretches of superb natural beach, fascinating local villages, ancient temples, and good diving. It is an ideal place for relaxing, a little culture and gentle exploration.
The nearby Gili Islands are wonderfully laid back and make a worthwhile addition to a journey to this part of the world.
Lombok is waiting to be explored for those who wish to do so; it makes a perfect addition to travels around the Indonesian islands and offers special touches not found anywhere else.
